| How he got started: Christopher's love for football started when he was in the womb. He was always kicking and hitting. He gave new meaning to "ready to rumble". When Christopher was 7 we lived in Kansas City, Kansas. From time to time he would ask me if he could play football. As a single parent I knew it would be hard to get him to practice while I was at work, and I would miss a lot of his game. I kept telling him I would let him play if we lived closer to his Dad. His Dad was living in Goshen, Ohio. In all honesty I was afraid to let him play. As Christopher grew older and I began to see how athletic he was, I knew it wouldn't be long before he would really start to beg me to allow him to play football. I also knew that he would some day ask to go live with his Dad. Realizing this I knew I did not want to be over 700 miles away from him when he went to go live with his Dad. I decided to sell my home and move to Goshen, Ohio. When I told Christopher, the first thing out of his mouth once he stopped crying was, "now can I play football?". And of course I said yes. My fall excuse was no more. Just as soon as we got to Goshen his Dad got him signed up and ready to go. It was amazing to see the joy football brought to this child. Nothing stopped him. Nor did he ever complain about the weather or how tired he was. The boy was born to play football. Nothing could stop him, not even the 4 days he spent in the hospital and 3 months of therapy after breaking his back at practice. As he was lifted into the ambulance, he asked "will I be still be able to play?". How do you look at your child and tell him "son, right now we don't even know if you will be able to walk". He stayed brave and tough. When the Doctor gave the order to give him morphene, Christopher said "no I don't want any, I . . . ooooh that feels good". Then later when ordering the cat scan, Christopher pointed with his "ET" finger and said "NO, I don't want my cat scanned". After 4 days in the hospital and being fitted for a back brace he came home. As of today he is still going strong and still unstoppable. Pick - A- Number: Christopher and his Dad now live in Evansville, Indiana, where Christopher attends Reitz High School as a Freshman. Christopher has been given the opportunity to play on not only the Freshman team, but also start with Special Teams on the Varsity team. I hope you enjoy following him over the next few years. Updates will be made as the photos and info make their way to me. Way to go Christopher I can't tell you how proud of you I am and how grateful I am that you have the support, love and guidance from your Dad, Grandma Beverly, Grandpa Charlie and all your other family members. |
